Evidence for the Resurrection

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Of utmost important to the Christian faith is the resurrection of Jesus after his death and burial.  1 Corinthians puts it this way:  (1Co 15:17)  “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.”

Josh McDowell has a great article here on Evidence for the Resurrection.

One quote for you from the article:

There exists no document from the ancient world, witnessed by so excellent a set of textual and historical testimonies . . . Skepticism regarding the historical credentials of Christianity is based upon an irrational bias.

Also Josh and Sean McDowell have recently written a book that deals extensively with this issue.  You can buy it here:  Book:  Evidence for the Resurrection

JMU Stories of God at Work

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Watch and be encouraged.  Not just by these lives represented in this video but by the reality that God is doing this all over the world.  Campus after campus, dorm after dorm, life after life.  This is a reality I can attest to and have seen.  Praise Jesus with me.  (Listen to the words of Scripture and then watch the reality played out in real life.  Stories begin at 2:10)

Community 2:8

I just got back from one of our C 2:8 events.  First of all, let me explain a bit what C 2:8 is all about.   It stands for “Community” as in 1 Thess. 2:8 “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.” (NIV)  Throughout the past six weeks we’ve been intentionally trying to “share our lives” with those that don’t yet know Jesus.  Instead of simply going to them to share Christ we are wanting to bring them into community, a community that looks like 1 Thess 2:8, while sharing Jesus with them.

I can’t say it better than they describe it here:  Community 2:8

Tonight we had a dodgeball tounament.  It was a great time.  We had around 60 people show up, many who I had not seen before and who probably would not show up to a Bible study or a large group meeting, and we played dodgeball together.  It was a fun time.

Here’s my team, “The Beet Farmers” (unoffical name because we didn’t all agree…but I liked it!)

David, Sean, Kory, Paul, Artur, Abby, me and Baby Elijah (Edge) (Tecnically Edge didn’t play but he did get hit once by a ball….whoops!)
And here’s part of the group that made it happen!

DeAnn and Baby Elijah.  And then the outreach team leaders, Brenna with the thumbs up and Jake closest to the camera.  Nice job guys!
